Remembering Pat

A memorial service was held on August 8, 2008 at First Mennonite Church in Newton, Kansas for Patricia (Pat) Becker, 67, who died on August 4, following a year-and-a-half battle with cancer.

Pat was a co-founder of a Mennonite support group on Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS) sponsored by ADNet and her story was among those featured in the Winter 2007 issue of Connections.  Following her own diagnosis of MCS in 1992, Pat worked to build awareness in the church and to find ways to support others facing the challenge of MCS.

Always active with her extended family and in the church, Pat expressed her sadness about not being able to attend school and sporting events of her grandchildren or serve on church committees.  Yet, she still found her niche through a prayer ministry.  She remarked, "I have 38 family members. Each of them is assigned a calendar day."

Her husband, Larry, their children, and grandchildren are among the many in the Newton community and well beyond who are missing Pat.  Carrying out Pat's wishes, ADNet was designated as one of the funds for memorial contributions.  ADNet will use these contributions to continue to update the website and sponsor the support group to minister to others with MCS.  Additional contributions are welcomed and may be designated as "Pat Becker memorial."
