The Asset-Based Community Development Institute
ABCD Institute of the Northwestern University: Institute for Policy Research, developed under the inspiration and direction of John McKnight, has taken a helpful approach in using the assets of persons with disabilities in the life of the larger community.

Association of University Centers on Disabilities
A network of interdisciplinary Centers advancing policy and practice for and with individuals with developmental and other disabilities, their families, and communities.

Disability is Natural
Kathie Snow has created a website dedicated to the "inclusion, opportunity, freedom, and dignity...[of ] all people—including people with disabilities."  Her signature article on "People First Language" and other essays under the banner of "Revolutionary Common Sense" are thought-provoking and well worth reading.

Government Benefits For Persons Who Are Disabled
An introduction to U.S. government benefits for the purpose of estate planning for a family member with a significant disability. A supplementary resource entitled Entitlements contains much the same information in a chart form.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
A U.S. government site with helpful explanations and information about these major government programs that affect persons with disabilities and mental illness.  The listings under the "Consumer" category will be the most helpful for families.

Quality Mall
This website has lots of free information about person-centered supports for people with developmental disabilities. Each of the Mall stores has departments you can look through to learn about positive practices that help people with developmental disabilities live, work and participate in our communities and improve the quality of their supports.

A U.S. federal government website for people with disabilities and their families. Guides to many government resources.
