The ABCs of Access
This document is a check list for churches to assess standards of accessibility in the areas of attitude, building, and communication. It is particularly useful for church leadership groups and committees doing the work of providing greater accessibility.
Accessibility is measured by three main factors: A ttitude: Evaluating our attitudes toward those with mental illness or a disability and their caregivers and family members. B uilding: Evaluating the facilities in which we worship and serve. C ommunication: Evaluating communication needs for auditory and visual barriers and sensory difficulties. ADNet offers these check lists as a starting point for congregations wanting to call themselves "accessible."For help in determining some of the more hidden aspects of accessibility, use the Congregational Survey. |
