Christine Guth
Program Associate

Christine Guth of Goshen, Indiana was the first Associate named by Anabaptist Disabilities Network (ADNet) in April 2006.  While finishing her studies at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS), Guth completed a number of class papers and projects related to her work with ADNet on depression and mental illness as well as autism spectrum differences.

Christine graduated from AMBS on May 19, 2007 with a Master of Divinity degree.  Encouraged by her Advisory Group to continue her theological reflection and writing, she has accepted an expanded ongoing staff role as a Program Associate, working on a variety of projects.  She is available for consultation and speaking assignments, especially in churches within driving distance of northern Indiana.

  The Gerasene Disciple, Mark 5:1-20,
Two articles on Mark 5:1-20 reflect on the story of a man from whom Jesus cast out a legion of unclean spirits (often called the Gerasene Demoniac). While not equating demon possession with mental ilness, author Christine Guth suggests that persons with mental illness find much to identify with in the character in this story.
Both articles were originally published in the Journal of Religion, Disability and Health, Vol. 11(4) 2007.
