The following sites have quality information related to developmental and physical disabilities.


National Organization on Disability
The mission of the National Organization on Disability (N.O.D.) is to expand the participation and contribution of America’s 54 million men, women and children with disabilities in all aspects of life. The Religion and Disability Program of N.O.D. is an interfaith effort, urging national faith groups, local congregations and seminaries to identify and remove barriers of architecture, communications, and attitudes.

The Arc of the United States
The Arc is one of the oldest organizations advocating for persons with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities. Has extensive resources including free publications, information on legislation, and locations of local chapters. Includes an extensive list of Disability Related Links.

Cognitive and Developmental Disabilities Resources
A big alphabetical list of sites related to disabilities from the Waisman Center, a national center dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development and developmental disabilities.

Family Village
The Family Village is a global community that integrates information, resources, and communication opportunities on the Internet for persons with mental retardation and other disabilities, for their families, and for those that provide them services and support. Includes religious resources.

Mobility-Advisor
Educational resource with articles on wheelchairs, scooters, accessories, wheel chair sports, disabled travel, transportation, and assistive technology to enhance the lives of individuals of all ages who need mobility assistance.

Center on Human Policy
This site, from the Syracuse University School of Education, is a great starting point for information on national policy and advocacy issues. There are links to many other important web sites in the disabilities field. It also includes links to abstracts and articles aimed particularly at professionals but some of which will be valuable to families as well. Of particular interest is an article entitled "Ways the Church Can Provide Help for Families of Persons with Disabilities."

Disability Solutions: A Publication for Families & Others Interested in Down Syndrome & Developmental Disabilities

National Family Caregivers Association (NFCA)
NFCA is a grass roots organization created to educate, support, empower and speak up for the millions of Americans who care for chronically ill, aged or disabled loved ones. NFCA deals with the variety of different diagnoses, different relationships and different life stages to address the common needs and concerns of all family caregivers.

DisabilityInfo.gov is a federal government website designed to provide people with disabilities access to the information they need quickly and easily. The site links to disability-related programs and services from numerous government agencies and is designed as a one-stop website where people with disabilities can easily find the resources they need to fully participate in the workforce and in their communities. The site includes a state and local resources map, which makes it easy to locate disability-related information in specific areas.
