Mental Health Spiritual Retreat
August 31-September 1, 2008. Camp Mennoscah, Murdock, Kansas. Fun, fellowship, worship, and an opportunity to share, for individuals and family members who deal with mental illness. Planned by a committee of consumers and church representatives, the weekend will include swimming, river water play, nutritious meals, special music ( this year a pianist ), worship, a new learning experience ( this year photography ) a nature walk, and a presentation on the theme for the year (this year "Living On A Shoestring"). Registration $30, with some scholarships available. This retreat was originally organized in 1995 by Arlene Friesen Schmidt who was then a member of Shalom Mennonite Church. Originally it was called "Shalom Mental Health Spiritual Retreat". It was then taken over by the Western District Life Enrichment Committee. It has been located at 3 different camp sites, including Camp Mennoscah the past several years. This year it will have 4 sponsoring groups: the Western District Retreat Commission, Prairie View Community Mental Health Services, First Mennonite Church in Halstead, and Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton.

July 8-12 Disabilities/Family Trip
Wilderness Wind in Ely, Minnesota is offering a canoe trip for persons with disabilities or the option to stay in one of the Lakeside cabins. They may be accompanied by one of their family members or friends. Wilderness Wind has collaborated with residents of MDC Goldenrod for more than 15 years and has experience working with a range of disabilities.
